Construction

Construction is quite simple, normally does not require the aid of special companies and beside the assembly of the corrugated steel pipe comprises mainly earthworks and, as a smaller part, work with concrete and natural rock.

Closed corrugated steel pipes are assembled without foundation on a firm, plane subgrade, whereby the earthwork, i.e. exchange of soil, if required, depends on underground conditions. With underground less firm and succeptible to frost an exchange of the soil is required. The soil stability can also be improved with crushed-stone bed and, if needed, using geotextiles or load distributing concrete plates with equalizing gravel layer.

To save construction time and predraining expenses corrugated steel pipes can also be preassembled completely or in sections outside the construction trench up to a weight of approx. 30 tons and then be placed into the trench by the construction company itself. The areas resulting between corner/bottom plate and soil body have either to be tamped by hand or flushed by means of powerful drainage.

Special care must be given to the compaction of the lower corner radii. Only light compaction equipment should be used. The required lateral working space is to be chosen in accordance with local conditions, structure and compaction equipment. The slope inclination of the trench is to be made dependant on the stability. If cohesive soil material is placed in the bedding area of the pipe, non-cohesive material has to be provided in the area around the pipe wall at a size of 1 m to 1,5 m depending on the profile to serve as drainage layer with ventilation characteristics. In the direct area of the pipe wall a round grain material, size 0-32 is recommended.

Extremly short construction times are obtained through minimization in the expense for drainage, whereby in most cases the assembly time of the pipe takes 1 day or few days.

After the minimum cover has been applied the MultiPlate construction can be loaded with construction vehicles immediately.

Installation requirements and technical information can be downloaded in the service - area.
